Must Read:- Madness Syndrome in the city of Abeokuta (by Flowz):

For so long I've been wondering why the Government allocated such huge acres of land to the Neuro Psychiatric Hospital at Ita-Oshin, Abeokuta. Is it that the State Government has foreseen a large number of people going insane or is it just a natural tendency or trait of the residents of Abeokuta? These questions and phenomenon still remains a mystery.

In Lagos, beggars and touts are common but in the city of Abeokuta, the syndrome of madness is becoming rampant. I've been to various parts of the state, we have them in every corner and junctions of the city.

Rumour has it that witchcraft and sorcery is behind this misery, and I have all reasons to believe that because Abeokuta is a city that so much respect its culture, customs and traditions. The use of charm, magic and other form of terrestrial power is very common in the society, you will see young and old people moving about with all sorts of charm tied to their waist, hand and other parts of their body.

However, Nigeria Psychiatric Hospitals unlike other modernised countries doesn't bring in these mentally challenged people. In European Countries such as US, UK, etc., there is a unit charged with the responsibility of going into the streets and cities in order to bring in any mentally disturbed person in the society for treatment and care.

Abeokuta on the other hand is the same as its territorial counterparts; mentally disturbed people are left on the streets with no one to care for them. These people should be considered citizens of the republic irrespective of their health or social status; they need shelter, food, security and care like everyone else.

In Conclusion, the Government should equip psychiatric hospitals with facilities that will aid in the treatment of this mentally retarded people.

And to MAPAITES out there...be careful and vigilant!! This is Abeokuta, respect the elders, watch what you say and where you say them because...."AWON IYA N BE OOoOO". Stay Safe (#wink!)
