WIND OF CHANGE; #BRINGBACKOURPRIDE IN MASS COMM......... .by Dave alonge
It is no more news to all departments, except the ‘pseudo pacesetter’, that the 2nd semester, NDI result has been released. Some departments have gotten the news of their results long before the commencement of the 1st semester NDII examination. They have seen their strength and study their weakness so as to strike their shortcomings before the NDII examination; thereby, horning their efforts with good grades. Little wonder why all other departments, except mass communication, can boast of students with Distinction.
For the so called ‘pride of MAPOLY’, that claimed to be challenging other made institutions, the wind of change has not yet reflected.
Mass Communication department is the only department in the school right now that releases the students’ results late compare to other departments, they are not organized in their dealings with students, no structured notice/result board; and the voted executives of the department are handcuffed to only dance to the tune of the ‘bosses’- they can’t represent themselves talkless of representing the students.
Whenever I have discussion with friends from other institutions, I become automatic dumbstruck when it comes to talking on results. I quickly switch to a character of ‘good listener’ whereas lost in deep thought; thinking about the time I will see my own exam performance. Some of them checked their result through their school portals during their holiday; some, immediately they resume but mine is when am through with my ND programme.
If man cannot not communicate; then, let’s communicate senses to ourselves; let us participate in the trending change. Maybe we have not realized that the Mass Communication department of MAPOLY is sinking. We are only floating with the life-jacket of old glory which cannot sustain us when the big wind comes. How would you claim to be the best department among Nigeria Institutions; yet, the last semester scaling performance of students is has not been released- now expecting a good performance from the students. Maybe we should ask UNILAG, UI, UNILORIN and other top ranking institutions in the nation on how they breed the 1st class students in mass communication.
Change is inevitable, so I urge the stakeholders to institutionalize positive change to the problems of the department. I plead with the ‘bosses’ not to see this article as a means of castigating their roles or function but to look at it as a welcome development to revive the pride of the department.
Please, #BringBackOurPride in Mass communication, #BringBackOurPride as the pacesetter of the institution, #BringBackOurPride as the Machinery of MAPOLY.
